Profile

I'm Birgitte, a Danish, Yoga teacher (Hatha, Yin and Restorative Yoga), exhibiting Textile Artist and former RGN nurse  living in Suffolk, England with my American husband. I have been creating with fiber and fabric for as long as I can remember. Over the decades I have touched base and explored a vast amount of techniques.

When moving to England in 1999 I was very fortunate to enroll and complete City and Guilds part 1 and Diploma in Patchwork and Quilting with Textile Artist Annette Morgan. While studying C+G I completed the pre course to C+G in Free Machine Embroidery with Textile Artist Pauline Verrinder as well as 3 ½ years of “Creative Stitching” (experimental hand embroidery) with Textile Artist Sue Walton. The three courses combined gave me the tools and confidence to explore, develop and trust my own designs.

Probably due to my Danish/Scandinavian background, I tend to gravitate towards simple and clean designs, using a predominantly light colored and very limited palette. In my recent work, I have been exploring how minimalistic I can go before there is ‘nothing’. A very exciting, yet soothing journey in a busy life where I’m constantly flexing in and out of my three cultures, the Danish, the English and the American. I find it very intriguing building up surfaces from scratch, and I often use every day and recycled items. I find the interplay between paper, fabric and stitch very exciting, and I love pushing the boundaries, exploring what’s possible.

In 2008 I opened my Etsy Shop: SewDanish - Scandinavian Textile Art, Unique Handmade Supplies http://SewDanish.com . Occationally teach a selection of textile and paper based workshops. I have been a member of Fibrefusion, Contemporary Textile Art group 2009 - 2015 and OutOfTheFold, Textile Art Group 2007 - 2011.

When not crafting and meeting exhibition deadlines, I can be found out hiking or practicing yoga.  November 2013 I started my level 4 Diploma Teacher Training (500 hours) through British Wheel of Yoga graduating September 2016. An absolutely fantastic journey! For 3 1/2 years I taught several weekly classes at Neal's Yard Remedies and Holistic Health Center in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, England as well as my lovely private clients. I then moved on to teaching weekly Slow Hatha, Yin and Restorative yoga class at The SelfCenter, Bury St Edmunds. For more information about my training and classes please click the 'Yoga' tab in the top bar. Due to various health issues, I'm unfurtunately not currently teachning, but I hope to be back in the near furture.
